Benji Alone Season 9 Illness: What Happened to Benji on Alone?

Loneliness Wiki

Alone is a riveting American survival competition series that airs on History. The show chronicles the daily struggles of 10 people (or seven paired teams in season four) as they face the daunting challenge of surviving alone in the wilderness. Equipped with only limited survival gear, participants document their experiences while trying to endure the harsh conditions for as long as possible.

Throughout their journey, they were completely isolated from each other and all other human contact, except for regular medical check-ups. They can choose to “opt out” at any time and withdraw from the competition if they feel the need to do so, or may be removed from the competition for failing a medical evaluation.

The ultimate prize for the contestant who stays in the wilderness the longest is a $500,000 grand prize, which increases to an impressive $1 million starting in Season 7. Each season takes place in a remote location, often on Aboriginal-controlled land, providing a diverse setting for the show.

Past filming locations include northern Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Nahuel Huapi National Park in Patagonia, Argentina, northern Mongolia, Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories, and Lake Chilco in interior British Columbia.

Benjy Alone Season 9 Illness

On Day 24, Benji spent some time sharpening and cleaning his tools before moving on to his next task—deboning. This specialized tool helps remove fat and meat from animal hides. Benji cleverly uses a beam of light to extract as much meat as possible from the beaver hide, with the goal of extracting the fat for preservation.

In a surprising turn of events, Benji decided to hunt a grouse despite the availability of beaver meat and fat. His first two attempts with the bow failed, but he persevered and successfully hit the bird on his third try. Benji expressed his gratitude to the camera and admitted that he had been lucky with his success with the bow and that he never expected to capture such a diverse range of animals.

Later that night, Benji prepared a meal of grouse meat and some beaver fat. Tasting the flavors, he described the fat as an explosion of flavor in his mouth. However, the next day brought unexpected consequences.

After waking up, Benji had severe stomach pains. To restore the flow of energy in his body, he performed a brief Qigong training session. Assuming his discomfort stemmed from overindulgence the night before, he set out to find some yarrow, hoping it would soothe his upset stomach.

Benji found yarrow by the river, but despite a short nap, he woke up feeling ill. His condition worsened over time, with fever, chills, stomach cramps and nausea. Although Benjy managed to avoid vomiting, he still hoped that a peaceful night would bring relief.

However, at 2 a.m., Benji suddenly woke up and vomited. That night, he was plagued by persistent stomach cramps, and he candidly shared his ordeal in front of the camera. By 6 a.m., he was completely unable to sleep, so weak that he could barely move.

Recognizing the gravity of his situation, the survivalist realizes his time in the game is over. Despite his disappointment, he expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to witness the changing seasons in Labrador and for the valuable lessons he learned from participating in Solitude.

What happened to Benjy in “Alone”?

During Season 9 of The Amityville Horror, Benji faced a series of challenges that ultimately led to his departure from the show. On Day 21, his pile of guts attracted a bear, but he decided not to shoot it because it wasn’t cold enough to freeze the carcass. Benji has completed his new shelter and is pleased with how much warmer and more spacious it is.

However, on day 26, he woke up with stomach pains, which he initially attributed to overeating. Although he tried to realign his body with Kui Gong and sought out yarrow to relieve his discomfort, his condition worsened. Benji had fever, chills, stomach cramps and nausea, but no relief. Eventually, he vomited and realized he might have been infected with giardia, commonly known as “beaver fever.”

With the disease taking a toll on his health and fearing for his survival, Benji made the difficult decision to quit on day 27. Despite his disappointment, he remains grateful for the experience and knowledge he gained during his solo trip.
