Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F finds Eddie Murphy’s title character on his most personal case yet, and the sequel leaves the door open for another film.

5 Inspector Douglas Todd

Played by: Gil Hill

Gil Hill as Inspector Todd in Beverly Hills Cop

Before being released Beverly Hills Police Gil Hill, Axel Foley’s hot-tempered boss, was a real-life cop who rose to the rank of homicide detective before embarking on a political career in Detroit. His only acting roles were in the first three Beverly Hills Cop films, and he passed up other opportunities.

Todd’s hairdryer tirades were legendary, and there was a genuine sense that, for all his bravado and rule-breaking, Foley was genuinely afraid of his inspector.

Why didn’t Todd come back?

Sadly, Hill died on February 29, 2016 after appearing in the first three films. Her character was killed off in 1994. A detective on the loose in Beverly Hills IIIwhich prompted Foley’s third trip to Beverly Hills to investigate criminal ties to Wonderworld, a Disney World scam.

4 Andrew Bogomil

Played by: Ronny Cox

Ronny Cox as Bogomil with Rosewood in Beverly Hills Cop

When Axel Foley first meets Lt. Andrew Bogomil in Beverly Hills Cop, he’s a by-the-book officer, but he’s open to hearing Foley’s theory about crime boss and art dealer Victor Maitland (Steven Berkoff). His approach to policing clashes with Foley’s, but in the end, he, too, bends the rules to protect Foley.

Bogomil was the only surviving employee of the Beverly Hills Police Department to return after the first film, with the entire staff, including detective duo Foster and McCabe (Art Kimbro and Joel Bailey), having left after the first film.

Why didn’t Bogomil return?

Bogomil does not return in A detective on the loose in Beverly Hills IIIand no explanation is offered as to why. Like Taggart (John Ashton), he may as well have retired, as Billy Rosewood has been promoted to second in command of the department. Cox was supposed to be in Beverly Hills Cop III, but said he AV Club Years after that “They wanted me to be in Beverly Hills Cop III, but… I read the script.”

Cox continues to act, but does not appear in Axel Fand even if he was asked to, his role is filled by Taggart (John Ashton), who is in charge of the police department when Foley returns, making Bogomil redundant. It’s a shame he didn’t get the chance for at least a small cameo, but there’s always Police in Beverly Hills 5.

Jan Bogomil (Alice Adair), his daughter, also appears in A detective on the loose in Beverly Hills II for a single appearance, and like his father, did not return for the end of the trilogy.

3 Jon Flint

Played by: Hector Elizondo

Hector Elizondo as Jon Flint in Beverly Hills Cop 3

In Taggart’s absence (due to John Ashton’s scheduling conflict), Jon Flint (Hector Elizondo) entered the scene. A detective on the loose in Beverly Hills III as Billy Rosewood’s new sidekick. He also had ties to villain Ellis DeWald, as his friend. The role of Flint was always intended to be played by Taggart, but was rewritten when Ashton was unable to return.

Why didn’t Flint come back?

Narratively speaking, Flint’s role was not necessary in Axel FBilly Rosewood has left the force to become a private investigator and Taggart is the boss. Almost all the other cops named in the sequel are corrupt and Jon Flint simply wouldn’t have fit in. Elizondo is still acting, having recently appeared in Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Movie About a Monk in 2023.

2 Janice Perkins

Played by: Theresa Randle

Axel Foley and Janice in Beverly Hills Cop 3

In A detective on the loose in Beverly Hills IIITheresa Randle is brought in as a romantic and comedic foil to Axel Foley. She is an employee of Wonderworld and is openly attracted to Murphy’s hero and flirts with him several times. At the end of the film, when DeWald is killed, Axel and Janice begin a relationship.

Why didn’t Janice come back?

Randle played a role in another legacy sequel, Bad Boys For Lifein 2023, having not appeared in a role for the 10 years prior to that. She was subsequently cast in the role of Bad Boys: Run or Dieand is apparently practically retired. Axel F It doesn’t answer who the mother of Axel’s daughter is, and Janice would have been a smart choice, given her role in the third film.

1 Jeannette “Jenny” Summers

Played by: Lisa Eilbacher

Jenny in Beverly Hills Cop

In the first Beverly Hills PoliceAxel Foley’s two childhood friends Jenny and Mikey (James Russo) play a pivotal role in bringing the Detroit police officer out west. Jenny gets Mikey a job as a security guard, and when he is murdered, Jenny teams up with Axel to investigate the truth, putting herself in the firing line of her boss Maitland.

Jenny was initially intended to be a romantic interest for Axel when Sylvester Stallone was cast.

Why didn’t Jenny come back?

Arguably the strangest of all missing characters of all time. Beverly Hills Police In the sequel, Jenny was supposed to be a childhood friend of Axel Foley’s, but he didn’t care enough for her to reunite with him when he returned to town.

Despite the obvious buildup to bringing Jenny back (particularly with Serge, played by Bronson Pinchot, making his third appearance), Jenny does not appear in Axel FLisa Eilbacher retired from acting in 1995, so presumably would not have been available to return even if asked.
