Harwell subsequently announced his retirement, citing ongoing health issues. Before his final show, the band had performed with a backup singer to accommodate Harwell’s health issues.

In January 2022, Smash Mouth marked a new chapter for the band by introducing their new vocalist, Zach Goode, who has been in several bands.
