After her grandfather dies, Alma Deranker returns to her childhood home in the Canadian wilderness. While exploring the forest, she stumbles upon the wreckage of a plane carrying a lion cub that was illegally taken from Africa for a circus show.

The calf’s fate takes an unexpected turn when a vulture intervenes, leading to it ending up in Alma’s care after an accident at the nest. Motivated by her grandfather’s strong opposition to animal exploitation in circuses, Alma chooses to protect the cub from the rangers.
