Notably, it marks the return of the series’ original creator, Ron Gilbert, who had previously worked on the first two Monkey Island games. Following Gilbert’s departure from the development company LucasArts in 1992, subsequent Monkey Island games were developed by LucasArts and Telltale Games without his involvement.

However, after The Walt Disney Company acquired the rights to Monkey Island in 2012, Gilbert negotiated to create a new installment with designer Dave Grossman, who had also worked on the original games. The announcement of “Return to Monkey Island” came in April 2022, with the protagonist Guybrush Threepwood once again voiced by Dominic Armato. The game has generally received positive reviews from players and critics alike.

At the Scumm Bar, Guybrush interacts with the Trivia Book and speaks to the new Pirate Leaders, who are initially uninterested in helping him. After a conversation, they suggest that Guybrush goes with LeChuck instead. Guybrush leaves the bar, and his ToDo List is updated.

To find a ship, Guybrush goes back to the docks and interacts with the Job Openings board. He is told to bring his own mop for the Swabbie job, but he discovers that he is blacklisted by LeChuck. Guybrush then follows the Voodoo Lady to the Real Voodoo shop and receives a hint book. He visits Wally’s Maps-n-More to ask about a mop and takes a Monocle from the shop.

To make a mop, Guybrush goes to the Scumm Bar’s kitchen and talks to the Cook, who advises him to find the mop-handle tree. Guybrush returns to Wally and gets another Monocle before going back to the kitchen. The Cook reveals that the mop-head can be anything. Guybrush also visits the Governor’s Mansion and learns about a dish served at a function. He tries to borrow Carla’s book but needs to apologize first. Returning to the Scumm Bar, Guybrush gives the Cook the book, who starts meal preparation. During the distraction, Guybrush cuts a slither of the mop. He takes it to Wally, who creates a map to find the Mop-Handle Tree. Guybrush follows the path and obtains the handle. Part -2 (A Dangerous Journey)

Part two of the “Return to Monkey Island” walkthrough takes place on LeShip, where Guybrush Threepwood tries to escape the hold. To get out of the hold, you need to pick up a pamphlet near the Ghost Chicken and inspect the crate to find a skull. Talk to the skull and then go to the porthole. Use the mop to swab the grease on the screws and remove them with the knife. Swab the grease around the porthole three times and climb outside.

On the deck, you’ll encounter LeChuck and his crew discussing the missing ingredient for their potion. Return to the hold, pick up the unboxed skull, and exit through the porthole again. Repair the laundry machine using the screws, flatten the skull by putting it through the machine, and drop it into the cauldron. Unfortunately, the potion gets ruined, and you’re tasked with finding new ingredients.

Climb up to the Crow’s Nest and use the telescope to discover another ship making a potion. Talk to Iron Rose, the quartermaster, and convince the crew to change their votes to go to Monkey Island. Each crew member has specific requirements to change their vote.

To convince Putra, the chef, to change her vote, find her promotion papers in the galley and offer to help her get promoted. Repair the greased-up porthole in the hold and feed the chickens, collecting their waste. Add these items to the First Swab’s Report and have Iron Rose sign it. Take the report to LeChuck’s cabin to get it signed and give the paperwork to Putra, making her a chef.

To convince Flair, retrieve her grandmother’s Whale Knife from Gullet’s back. Go to the rudders in the hold and remove the knife, then return it to Flair.

Flambe’s vote can be changed by obtaining his favorite food, a Scorched Alaska. Ask him about his favorite food and have Putra make it. Trim a glowing stick using a knife and combine it with Scorched Alaska. Give it to Flambe and borrow his book.

Apple Bob wants entertainment, so give him the book you borrowed from Flambe. Finally, return to the galley and speak to Putra again to ensure her vote aligns with Iron Rose’s.

After convincing all the crew members, ring the bell once to initiate the vote. Then ring it again to distract LeChuck and sneak into his cabin. Swap the map on his desk with the one you used in Part 1. Load the flattened skull into the cannon and fire it at the other ship. Watch the cutscene, choose some dialogue options, and conclude Part 2.

He then discovers LeChuck’s favorite food, tentacles with daisy sauce, and retrieves a tentacle to give to the ship’s cook. He also finds out LeChuck’s catchphrase by reading his diary and obtains LeChuck’s theme song by distracting Flair and taking the music sheet. Leaving Brrr Muda, Guybrush returns to Melee Island and boards LeChuck’s ship. He interacts with Apple Bob, who teaches him to add more description to stories but requires a replacement joke book. Guybrush becomes a High-Ranking Chum by telling a story to the Fish Shop owner and obtains Bella Fisher’s flag. He also retrieves the book he gave to the Cook earlier.

Guybrush and Elaine start at the Giant Monkey Head and proceed inside. They follow a zig-zag path until LeChuck’s crewmate tells them to stop. Guybrush ignores the warning and continues until he reaches a ledge. He enters a room with multiple paths and must choose between going left or right. In each room, there is a Monkey statue that requires an item to be placed in its hand.

In the first room, Guybrush places an empty Grog Mug in the hand of a Jolly Monkey standing on a barrel. In the next room, he places a Monocle in the hand of a Squinting Monkey and finds a Pebble. The third room features a Frustrated Monkey, and Guybrush places a Knife in its hands. In the fourth room, he gives Crackers to a Monkey statue with a parrot. After completing all the rooms, the door opens, and Guybrush retrieves his items.

Next, Guybrush goes down the stairs to the second floor. In this area, there are three rooms with Monkey statues and Treasure Chests. Guybrush collects Pebbles from each room, resulting in a total of five Pebbles. He must distribute the Pebbles among the Treasure Chests based on their size, ensuring no Monkey has the same amount. After solving the puzzle, Guybrush retrieves his coins from Captain Monkeybeard and proceeds to the third floor.

On the third floor, Guybrush encounters Monkey statues with different characteristics. He uses his Knife on a Sad Monkey and a Screaming Monkey. However, the third statue is broken, so Guybrush fills his Grog Mug with liquid and pours it on the broken statue to fix it. This action opens a door that leads to a lower level beneath the Giant Monkey Head.

In the next room, there is a wheel that starts closing. Guybrush must solve a puzzle to open the door. Clues from inscriptions and numbers above doorways help him determine the starting positions of the wheel’s three rings. Following the instructions, he rotates the rings accordingly and enters the door as the wheel raises. This leads to the revelation of the Secret of Monkey Island.

Overall, the walkthrough provides a step-by-step guide for players to progress through Part 5 – Beneath the Monkey Head, including completing puzzles and objectives necessary for advancing the story.
