Scream 2 is a 1997 American horror film directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson. It is the second installment in the popular Scream film series. The film continues the exciting and suspenseful storyline of the original film. Directed by Wes Craven, the film returns some familiar faces such as David Arquette as Deputy Dewey Riley, Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Curt Nee Cox plays determined journalist Gail Weathers.

Things take a shocking turn when Mickey reveals his sinister plan to kill Sidney and concoct cinematic violence for the murder. However, his accomplice Debbie (who Sidney recognized as Nancy Loomis) betrayed Mickey and shot him. A fight breaks out between Nancy and Sidney, during which Cotton intervenes and points a gun at them.

Nancy attempts to manipulate Cotton into killing Sidney, but to her surprise, Cotton chooses to shoot Nancy. Amid the chaos, Gail, who was thought to be injured, surprised everyone by revealing that the gunshot had only grazed her ribs. When the police arrived, Dewey was found alive and Gale chose to accompany him in the ambulance. Thinking quickly, Sidney directed the media’s attention to Cotton, rewarding him for his help and diverting attention away from herself.

Scream 2 plot

The film opens with Maureen and Phil attending a preview screening of The Assassination, a film based on the Woodsboro Massacre. Phil was killed by Ghostface and Maureen was mistaken for a stuntwoman until she was stabbed to death on stage. News media flocked to Windsor College, where Sidney and other survivors attended. Ghostface continues his killing spree, targeting students and attacking Sidney. Gale and Randy theorize about the killer’s motives, while Dewey and Gale become victims themselves.

Sidney discovers that Mickey is the new Ghostface, along with his accomplice Debbie. Debbie turns on Mitch, and Sidney confronts her with her own twisted motives. Cotton steps in, choosing to shoot Debbie and seeking an interview with Sidney. Sidney confirmed Debbie’s death and Gail revealed how she survived. Mickey reappears but is quickly killed by Gale and Sidney. Sidney shoots Debbie to ensure her death. The police arrive, Dewey is still alive, and Gale chooses to get into the ambulance with him. Sidney distracts Cotton by asking him questions and rewards him for his help.
