The Jedi Knights are considered to be the invincible heroes of Star Wars, but what happens when they face off against another Jedi? Despite their honor-driven lifestyle, there have been several instances over the course of the franchise where Jedi have killed one another. Over the thousands of years that the Jedi Order has been keeping the peace of the galaxy, it’s no surprise to imagine that things are not always handled well between Jedi.

It’s true that Jedi have been killed by bounty hunters, Sith, and even Mandalorians throughout their history, but being killed by a fellow Jedi is another matter altogether. Whether by some sort of terrible accident or due to the influences of the dark side, it’s not unheard of in the Star Wars saga for Jedi to destroy one another. With their incredible combat training, connection to the Force, and deadly weaponry, a fight between two Jedi is always quite a sight, whatever the motivation. Here are some major examples from canon and Star Wars Legends.

Tricking each of their Padawans into thinking they were completing their trials to becoming Knights, the Jedi Covenant told their apprentices that they were to wait in the Temple for the results of their trials. In reality, the Jedi Masters ambushed the Padawans, slaying four out of the five. The surviving Padawan was blamed for the massacre, and he set out on a mission to hold the Jedi Masters accountable.

She believed that their role as the galaxy’s peacekeepers had been completely lost in favor of becoming the Republic’s soldiers. In her eyes, the Jedi needed to be shaken to their core before they could make the changes they needed.

She orchestrated the planting of a bomb in the Jedi Temple, killing many Jedi and other civilians as well, which Offee believed was for the greater good. Her friend Mara was killed in the blast, and she framed Ahsoka for the entire plot. When she was discovered, Offee was arrested and stripped of her Jedi status. This ultimately saved her life during Order 66, and the former Jedi soon became a Jedi-hunting Inquisitor for the Empire.

As a young boy, Anakin Skywalker himself declared his belief that “no one can kill a Jedi,” not realizing that he would one day hold one of the highest Jedi kill counts in the galaxy’s history. Anakin’s time in the Jedi Order was characterized by both his incredible potential and the mistrust of the other Jedi Masters around him. That combination would prove deadly when Darth Sidious manipulates Anakin into turning against the Jedi.

Anakin’s last act before pledging himself to Sidious is to cut off Mave Windu’s hands, allowing him to be overtaken by the Sith Lord. Though he feels remorse for Mace’s death, it doesn’t stop Anakin from continuing down the path to the dark side. Anakin then leads a deadly attack on the Jedi Temple, wiping out all the Jedi inside. After becoming Darth Vader, Anakin hunts down and eliminates any remaining Jedi that he can, ultimately becoming the most successful Jedi killer in all of Star Wars history.
